Basketball Player Jeron Lewis Died

Southern Indiana player Jeron Lewis died on Thursday night, apparently from a head injury suffered during a game at Kentucky Wesleyan College in Waynesboro.

 

According to the witnesses of the game, Lewis’ feet twisted and he could not balance himself and fell to the floor of the Owensboro Sportscenter. His head hit forcefully with the floor. He laid prone as trainers from both teams attended to him. He began convulsing as they tried to secure him. He was then later pronounced dead at 9:52 p.m. at Owensboro Mercy Health System.

 

The death of Jeron was made aware to his teammates approximately 30 minutes after the game ended. In this game, Southern Indiana won with 74-69 score. Jeron’s coach and teammates were very sad and flabbergasted before his sudden death.

 

In a statement on the University’s website, Linda L.M. Bennett expressed his sadness to the unlucky player and his family. According to Bennett, Jeron is an excellent and outstanding student. He claimed that the University community and his teammates will be missing Jeron.

 

An autopsy was scheduled for Friday morning to discover the exact cause of Jeron’s death.

It was Jeron Lewis’ second season at Southern Indiana, he had a good average in both of his seasons with Southern Indiana. In the first season, he had the average of 6.1 points per match and 12.2 points per match in the current season.

 

Jeron Lewis was just 21 years old and his height was 6 feet and 8 inches weighing 260 pounds. The Courier & Press reported that he has just left the team for two games to tackle the birthday of his beloved son Jamel in his hometown of Fort Wayne, Indiana, in December. It has been reported that Jeron Lewis was very kind to kids and he was a very humorous person.

Building muscle mass, and getting stronger and quicker is the secret to really holding your own on the court, especially down in the key. For this reason it is essential to make basketball weight training programs a major part of your training schedule, both off-season and on.

To increase strength and gain muscle mass there are 3 major factors to consider and make part of your regular basketball weight training programs. Focusing on these will help you to see much faster muscle gains than most of your competition, particularly if you are a skinny guy.

Heavy Weights

One of the most important aspects of any basketball weight training program is the need to be using heavy weights, and by this I mean using weights that make your final reps almost impossible to complete.

This technique of Progressive Overload is a proven technique to help skinny guys pack on muscle fast, and keeps the gains consistent as your body is not allowed the chance to “get used” to the training. This prevents a plateau in your strength gains.

Low Reps

Many players who want to gain muscle think that they should be doing high numbers of reps on their exercises. In fact, the reverse is true…to build muscle you should be doing LESS reps on a HIGH weight.

This is mass building at its core. By keeping the reps low and the weight heavy you stimulate a large amount of muscle tissue and prevent early fatigue, which could also hamper your game play.

How I Became A Professional Basketball Player

Hi my name is Wesley Channels. I’m a professional basketball player. Basketball is a fun sport to play for recreation or seriously. Far back as I can remember my dream was to play in the NBA one day. Although I haven’t reached my ultimate goal, I play professional basketball for a living.

It didn’t just happen for me overnight. As a matter of fact it was years of hard work and passion that allowed me to do this. If you aspire to play basketball on the professional level one day you will have to be passionate about it.

I am here to help you with tips of how I was able to do it. My strategies may not work for you but it’s worth a try. First before ever touching a ball you must know that basketball is not all physical. In fact it’s very much a mental game. I say this because noone plays perfect every gam or never suffers an injury. 

When you’re not at your best physically you can make up for some of it by being mentally tough. This includes studying your opponents, out smarting the opponent and staying in a positive mindset.

Coming up I was never the most athletic or most talented player. In fact early on I was always a reserve player that came off the bench. I didn’t let that discourage me but instead I made that my motivation to get better.

If you get that mindset, the sky is the limit. The key is doing what other’s won’t. What I did was get stronger by lifting weights. I had a ball in my hand all the time and put up shots every chance that I got. I often went to the gym and visualized myself in game situations and practicing what I would do in a game.

If I messed up in a game I would replay the situations to get the outcome that I want. Those are some of the things that helped me that can help you to. I’ve created a program “How Do You Play Basketball” to share additional tips of how I became a pro.

To better your form, after stretching, eliminate any mental blocks that you might have. There is a connection between what your mind and what your body does, and you want to eliminate that by picturing your goals as clearly in your mind as possible, so that you don’t inhibit in any way what your mechanics are going to do.

I recommend that you watch NBA player Spud Webb, paying attention to how he gets into his jump. You will notice how Spud Webb’s last step before he explodes is exaggerated and about twice or three times as long as his normal step. Why does he do that? Because that additional length lowers his entire body, and when his entire body is lowered, it’s ready for all the muscles to contract and send him upward.

If you’re training for any event in track and field-whether it’s long jump or high jump-they’re going to teach you to exaggerate your final step so it lowers your entire body weight  and gets you ready to explode. If you’re standing straight up in the air, the least that you can do is maybe flex your quads a little bit, flex your calves, and just do a little bit with your lower back. But you’re not going to be able to get near the explosion as when you’re already poised and in place.

Now, notice at the point right before full explosion, where his arm’s at, where’s the ball at. It’s nearly in between his legs, because if his hands were already up near his chest, he can’t explode using his upper body. So his whole body-including his legs, arms, and upper body-is ready to explode upward. 

You want to exaggerate this as much as you can-even pointing your toes towards your knees so that your legs are ready to fully explode and that your joints and muscles are taking advantage of all of the elasticity that they have. Watch Spud Webb to see where everything is exploding upwards: his hands have gone up; his legs are extending; and he’s sending everything he has skyward. Here are some bold predictions concerning players for the 2010 NFL season:
Tony Romo will be the best statistical quarterback in the league this season. This could very well happen, and it’s definitely not the boldest prediction you’ll see in this article. The Cowboys might end up being the offense that every fan wants to get NFL tickets to see. Romo will be supported by a running game that features three good backs and has a number of weapons at his disposal through the air.

Miles Austin emerged as an elite wide receiver last season and he and Romo seem to have great chemistry, while Jason Witten is one of the premier tight ends in the league. These two targets alone would be great for any signal caller, but Romo also has Roy Williams and Dez Bryant. I wouldn’t be surprised if Romo broke the 35-TD mark this season.

Chris Johnson will not lead the league in rushing. Everyone seems to be assuming that Johnson is going to approach 2,000 yards again, including himself, but I’m not as confident. Most backs to reach 2,000 yards rushing have struggled the following year, and Johnson’s small frame doesn’t make me feel any better about that trend. I’m not sure who will lead the league on the ground, but Adrian Peterson is an obvious candidate.

Calvin Johnson will add himself to the conversation for best wide receiver in the league. Johnson is one of the most physically gifted players to ever play in the National Football League, which is saying something. He struggled with injuries in 2009, but could be poised for a huge year in 2010. Matthew Stafford is entering his second season and the team brought in a number of new weapons to take some of the attention off Johnson. The writing is on the wall.

Larry Fitzgerald will struggle with Matt Leinart under center. Now, don’t expect Fitz to disappear completely this season, but I think Leinart is going to have a tough time in 2010, which will hurt Fitzgerald’s production. He’ll still make plays for the team, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see a major statistical regression.

Shonn Greene will have a huge season. I don’t think 1,200 yards rushing and 15 touchdowns is completely out of the question for Greene in his first season as a starter. Offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer not only saw what Greene can do in the postseason last year, but he also saw how it benefitted Mark Sanchez. The Jets are going to run the ball, and behind one of the best offensive lines in the league Greene should show himself to be a star.

Chester Taylor will emerge as the best running back on the Bears. Matt Forte just didn’t look like the same back last season, and though reports this preseason are encouraging, Taylor is a better fit in Mike Martz’s offensive system. Taylor’s versatility will make him a Martz favorite from the get-go and I think he will actually see more work than Forte this season.

Ricky Williams will have one last big season. Is there any reason to believe in Ronnie Brown’s ability to stay on the field at this point? Williams showed that he still has something left in the tank and I think he’ll be looking at 1,200 yards rushing and double-digit touchdowns by the end of the season.

Pierre Garcon will show signs of taking the Colts’ number one wide receiver spot away from Reggie Wayne. Garcon was the go-to guy in the postseason last year, not Wayne; I think that speaks volumes. Sure, defenses paid more attention to Wayne, but it’s not like they could focus on him too much with so many playmakers on the Indy offense. Garcon has real potential and I think he takes a big step in his development in 2010.
