You see it every year. Very talented high school soccer players earn a soccer scholarship to a great college. A few years go by and that athlete has seemed to disappear and no longer plays for the college team. What happened? While everyone has their own reason for quitting, we have narrowed 5 main reasons that scholarship soccer athletes fail to succeed at this level.

Not developing a solid recruiting plan: Most reasons relate back to this main issue. Players in high school do not know what they want out of college. They are going through the recruiting process without first having developed a personal assessment with their parent’s and coach. They then end up picking a college for the wrong reasons and this almost always leads to failure.
College is the wrong academic fit: Just because a school accepts you,  that does not mean you will be able to succeed academically there. We know many students that get accepted into IVY league schools because they play a sport. Their grades aren’t that bad, but will they really have the academic tools for success? We also see athletes that will attend colleges because they go the scholarship, but will use the scholarship to rationalize the college not having the major they wanted. Picking the wrong school socially: Realize that the college you visit on a recruiting trip is not the same school you will see when you show up in the fall. Recruiting trips are sales visits. Make sure that away from athletics, the college has enough to offer you. Also if you come from a small town, will you be comfortable at a massive university that is larger than your hometown?
Picking the wrong school athletically:  Just because you accepted a scholarship, it does not mean you will get any playing time. Each year, freshmen and transfers just as or more talented then you show up to campus wanting your playing time. Are you willing to sit on the bench for a few years while your skills improve at a DI school. Or would you be happier at a smaller college where you know you can play the fist year on campus?
Geographic Issues:  It is hard to say how you will react and feel attending a college 1,000, 2,000 or even 100 miles from home. Think about this long and hard when you are in the recruiting process. Also if you live in Florida, do you think you could handle snow and cold for months on end if you attend school up North? These factors are often overlooked.

Let all the debates begin. Each and every year fans disagree on the best college baseball recruiting rankings and who actually had the best recruiting class. Each fan usually favors their own team to some degree, but even unbiased fans have trouble agreeing on who’s recruiting class was actually the best. Even the experts usually can’t agree.

1965 Ncaa College Football Season

College Football has long been a popular American sport. We now have a system in which teams are ranked by the press and a computer to determine who should play in the National Championship game.

This has not been the case forever. The league used to depend on a number of polls that would determine the rankings of different teams and who would be the National Champions. This was the case in 1965.

In that season the AP Poll was the most popular of each of them and they would award the AP Trophy to the team that would win the polls at the end of the season. Like today, there was also a poll called the Coaches Poll in which the coaches would vote to determine what teams in the nation were the best. In 1965 there were 121 teams. Those teams were voted on for the AP Poll by 55 different sportswriters. Unlike today, where the writers tell who their favorite 25 teams are, in those days they would just give their 10 best teams.

The season featured a number of solid teams that would win the hearts of many people in America. Entering the season the Nebraska Cornhuskers were the number 1 teams in the nation. They would experience a season in which they would start the season out as the top team, and they would go on to win every game during the regular season.

They were not the only undefeated team, however. There were a couple of other teams in the preseason top 10 that managed to go throughout the season without losing a game. Arkansas and Michigan State would also have 10-0 seasons. They would each win their conferences and they earned their way into bowl games.

Today we have dozens of bowl games that are awarded to almost every team that wins enough games to qualify. This was not the case in 1965. There were only 6 bowl games to play in. Only the very best teams in the nation would be invited to play in those games.

The 6 games featured the top teams, but they would not play each other. While today the National Championship would likely be decided by two of the very best teams in the nation playing each other, in those days the top 3 teams all played in separate bowl games.

After perfect seasons by all three of those universities they all experienced tragic defeats in their bowl games. Each was pushing for the National Championship, but they were defeated by the likes of UCLA(number 7 in the nation), LSU(unranked) and Alabama(4th in the nation). With the loss of all of these teams there was much confusion as to who should take home the championship.

When the AP Poll came out the Alabama Crimson Tide team was named the National Champion team. There was a differing opinion from the Coaches Poll however, as they named Michigan State the National Champions.

This was a crazy year for football as there was a split decision for National Champions. The Heisman Trophy would go to Mike Garrett, a star running back from USC.

It is everyone’s dream to study in the best college of his/her respective fields. An aspiring medical student wants to study in Johns Hopkins Medical College. Similarly, every management student aspires for a seat in Wharton or Kellogg’s Business School. However, as is the case with everything in this world, not everyone can get a seat in these colleges. Hence, it is all the more important to know about other good institutions where one can pursue his education. Also, many new educational areas have emerged recently, where information about the quality of institutions is limited. No doubt, there is a lot of information available on the internet, but it is very difficult to assimilate and truly understand a particular institution’s worth through its website.

To fulfill this gap, many publications come up with college rankings to help students form an informed choice. In arriving at these rankings, a list of important parameters is created (such as staff strength, their qualifications, placements and infrastructure). A statistical model is developed where scores are assigned to each parameter to come up with the final ratings. In some cases, certain clusters are created, by putting similar level institutions in one bracket. In addition to these parameters, many factors such as market perception etc are also included in the final score. Thus, these ratings give students an objective idea about the relative worth of a particular institution alongside plus and minus points.

However, one has seen a glut of such college ratings in the market with many lesser known agencies publishing these ratings. Also, there has been a constant allegation on institutions to falsify the information or paying rating agencies to get higher ratings. This leaves students even more confused.

While relying on a rating, one should always look at the methodology used. If a rating takes care of the view of various stakeholders such as current students, industry perception, alumni view, strength of the curriculum, it will be more robust. There are various sector specific publications which capture intricacies of an industry and the way a particular institute works. Their rankings should be more comprehensive than done by some third party agency.

Here is a football strength workout for beginners and high school football players. This workout plan serves as the base to put 20-30 lbs on your lifts.

Do this football workout 3x’s per week for 3 months, always trying to beat your previous bests.

Remember, your goal as a high school football player is to get bigger, stronger, more explosive and faster for football, so, your football workouts must reflect this. You can’t simply throw together random exercises and hope for the best!

We start off every session with a main exercise, for heavy, multiple sets of low reps.

If it call for 8 x 3, that means 8 sets of 3 reps. Use the first 3 sets as warm ups then keep adding weight until you reach as much as you can for 3 reps in good form. College Football Workout Programs

Glute Ham Raise – 3 x 8 (add weight when possible)
