Chicago Blackhawks vs LA Kings: NHL Odds on Versus

While Stanford and Virginia Tech will tell a tale of Pac-10 vs ACC teams fighting it out in the Orange Bowl at 8:30pm EST on Monday night; it will be a tale of two 4th place teams hitting the boards when the Chicago Blackhawks (20-17-3) travel to face the Los Angeles Kings (22-15-1) on Versus live from the STAPLES Center with the puck scheduled to drop at 9:00pm EST. Online sportsbooks have opened with the Kings as a -135 favorite in NHL predictions vs the Blackhawks +115 with an over/under betting total of 5.5 UNDER (-120). Sportsbooks also favor Los Angeles -1.5 (+225) in puck line NHL odds vs Chicago +1.5 (-270) for Monday night’s game on Versus.

The Blackhawks currently sit in fourth pace of the Central Division and had won four consecutive games towards the end of December but have lost their path with three consecutive losses heading into Monday’s match-up vs the Kings. Chicago lost 1-2 on Sunday as favorites in NHL predictions on the road vs the Anaheim Ducks to follow a 3-5 loss vs the San Jose Sharks and 1-3 loss at the St. Louis Blues. Although the Blackhawks are underdogs in NHL odds vs the Kings they do have positive betting trends in their favor having gone 8-1 in their previous nine match-ups including 5 straight wins vs Los Angeles and holding them to only two goals in that span.

The Kings also sit in fourth place of the Pacific Division and have their own losing streak to contend with tonight as Los Angeles has lost their last three game. The Kings lost to the San Jose Sharks 0-1 on Saturday as favorites in NHL predictions at home after a 4-7 home loss to the Philadelphia Flyers and 3-6 road loss to the Phoenix Coyotes. Los Angeles will have to also overcome being out-shot by the Blackhawks 11-27 in their previous nine match-ups. The Kings are ranked 12th in the league for goals per game this season and could pull off the victory at home tonight if captain Dustin Brown can finally find the net vs Chicago. Brown has only one goal vs the Blackhawks in their past nine games.

Chicago Baseball

Well, Chicago baseball is heating up already this Spring. Just a few games into the season, and one of last season’s two playoff-bound Chicago baseball teams is having a whole lotta shake-up going on.

Fierty White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen has moved mostly untested but highly promising second baseman Chris Getz into the leadoff spot just a few games into the regular 2009 season. Although Getz made an oh-fer (0 for 4) in his leadoff man debut against the Kansas City Royals (which the Chisox lost 2-1, stranding men on base in the final inning), Guillen said he liked the way Getz took all four of his plate appearances and will leave him in the leadoff spot for the foreseeable future. Not giving Guillen a good look at the plate in the previous two games was what cost center fielder DeWayne Wise the leadoff man spot.

Speaking of his decision, the always-straight-forward Chisox manager said of Wise’s final three plate appearances the day before, “I don’t like it at all. I think he was trying to, I don’t want to say intimidated, but just wanted to protect the plate. I want to get him out of there for a couple of days until he starts to swing the bat better. When he starts to swing the bat better or the way we think he swings the bat, I’ll move him back up to see what happens.”

The Chicago crowd certainly seemed to be in sync with Guillen’s thoughts. They booed Wise roundly the previous games before he was dropped from the leadoff spot after going 0-for-8. Wise himself is, well, none too wise about exactly why.

“I can’t figure it out. I was at home last night, and I was thinking about it. I was like, ‘Wow, it’s not just me that’s not hitting.’ I’ve kind of been the guy that’s been singled out and taken all the heat. I guess this leadoff thing has been the topic all offseason and through the entire spring training, maybe it’s because the fans wanted a veteran guy in that spot, a natural leadoff guy that’s had success on this level in that spot.”

Still, Wise and Getz, along with third baseman Josh Fields (who, though confined to the bottom of the order for now, apparently has learned how to lay down bunt-singles to make up for his lack of brilliant hitting), are all touted as potential big offense for a Chisox team that spent the off season offing some of its older veteran players to add youthful energy to those who remained. Hitting coach Greg Walker says of Wise, Getz, and Fields, “We’re excited about them. We feel like what they do mechanically holds up and they are mentally strong kids, so they should be just fine.” And manager Guillen, who calls himself a “defense guy”, has also voiced the opinion that “When you got Wise, Getz, Quentin, and then go to A.J., Fields and Ramirez, you got more ability to do more stuff. I don’t have to wait for Konerko, Dye, Thome to get hot to score some runs.”

On the mound, fireballing closer Bobby Jenks, who has been known to hit 100mph with his heaters, put aside worries from some that he was losing his already legendary velocity by consistently hitting 96 and 97mph in his appearances. so far this season. Still, he did give up the losing run in the form of a homer to non-power-hitter Coco Crisp of the Royals in the 2-1 loss. According to Jenks, Crisp hit a “cutter that didn’t cut.” But Jenks is still plenty young, the season is plenty young, and nobody’s perfect.

Chicago baseball could see a playoff repeat appearance from the 2006 World Champions this season. We’ll see how the off-season wheeling and dealing ends.

NFL ? Mark Sanchez will play against Chicago on Sunday

The quarterback from the NY Jets, Mark Sanchez, has announced that he will play for the playoffs berth even if his shoulder is not at its best, for he understand the kind of pressure set upon the team to make it into the playoffs.  Sanchez was a bit limited on practice this Wednesday, but there are rumors that it is just a matter of time before he can be back in top shape for this game.

The New York Jets would be able to clinch a playoff berth if the team can manage to defeat the Chicago Bears. Right now, the Jets are 10-4 for the season, the same exact season record that the Jets hold. If the Jets win, they could link their second consecutive playoffs berth under head coach Rex Ryan.

Sanchez underwent an MRI exam on his shoulder after the game. The test revealed no serious injury, but his complains where enough to keep the offensive team on hold earlier this week. The second-year quarterback is keeping things under the radar during the season. He was part of all the running plays, just to make sure he knows exactly where to go during the game, but he didn’t throw much during the week, giving rest to his shoulder. The team doctors expect Sanchez to complete a full training before the game, and although the injury could worsen during the week, the team remains positive.

As of press time, the Bears are a -1 point favorite on the spread. The Jets are going to have to put on an impressive game at Soldier Field Stadium, when Mark Sanchez and Company make it to Chicago. The Jets are 10-4 for the season and 8-6-0 against the spread. Now, 5 of the last 8 games, the Jets have not been able to cover their spread.

The Chicago Bears on the other hand, are also 10-4, and sit 7-6-1 Against the spread. The Bears have had a decent performance when playing against the spread. Out of the last ten games of the season, the Chicago Bears have covered the spread in 5, have failed to do so in 4 and have pushed 1. The last four games they have played, have stayed over the opening line total.

The Bears linked 5 consecutive wins before stumbling upon the New England Patriots two weeks ago. Tom Brady and the Patriots outplayed the Bears and defeated them by 7-36. Then it was payback time. With the legendary Brett Favre out of the game, the Vikings had very little chance to win, and the Bears crushed Minnesota by 40-14.

The Jets panic alarm went off when they played at New England. Again it was tom Brady who kept punishing the Jets on the air and kept them off the radar in the Patriots 3-45 whooping of the Jets. The Jets then failed to win their next game against the Miami Dolphins. A very important win against the Steelers kept the Jets’ chances to make it into the playoffs open.  There is a lot at stake for this game, so stay tuned and don’t miss the best NFL betting action at Betias.com

NFL Sports Book: Chicago vs Miami

NFL Sports Book: Chicago vs Miami

It took three quarterbacks but the Miami Dolphins toppled the Tennessee Titans last Sunday. Now on a short week, they’ll take on the Chicago Bears with their third string quarterback Tyler Thigpen.

The Chicago Bears are 6-3 on the season but they have looked far from being one of the top teams in the NFC. The early NFL sports book betting action is backing the Chicago Bears 64/36.

The odds makers have set the NFL sports book lines favoring the Dolphins by -1½-points. As the line is under 2-points, there is no moneyline available. The game total is set at 40½.

The Miami Dolphins sat Chad Henne down in favor of Chad Pennington last weekend against the Titans, buy NFL Jerseys on Ujersy. It did last long as Pennington only completed 1 of 2 passes before suffering a season ending shoulder injury.

Henne was back for the Dolphins and played well but suffered a knee injury. Thigpen came in and mopped up, completing 4 of 6 passes for 64 yards and a TD pass.

This will be Thigpen’s first start since 2008, when he was starting for the Kansas City Chiefs. Thigpen played well for the Chiefs but lacked the supporting staff to get him some wins.

The biggest injury for the Dolphins isn’t under center; it could be tackle Jake Long. Long has been a stalwart of the offensive line since being the number one pick in the 2008 NFL Draft. Long injured his shoulder against the Titans but he will try to play. It remains to be seen if he can remain effective.

The Chicago Bears are tied with the Green Bay Packers at the top of the NFC North. They won their first 3 games of the season, then when 1-3 in October but they’ve won two straight in November. Their November wins came over the Bills and Vikings, not exactly good measuring sticks but wins are wins.

Recommend directory: Philadelphia Eagles, The Bears defense has shown glimpses of a return to the “Monsters of the Midway” defense from Bears past. The Bears are holding opponents to just 16.2 points per game, good for second in the league.

The Bears offensive line, which was the crux of the Bears losses, has turned it around. The Bears gave up 23 sacks in October but has let defenders get to Jay Cutler just twice.

At the NFL sports book, the Bears are 4-4-1 against the NFL betting spread and the Dolphins are 6-3 ATS.

Thursday’s game will depend on the Bears offensive line, continuing their strong play or the ability of Tyler Thigpen to step in and run the Dolphins offense.

I like the Dolphins as their losses have come against the top teams in the league, the Bears record is inflated with wins over teams like the Vikings, Bills, Detroit, Carolina and Dallas. The Bears have a nice season going but they won’t get past the Dolphins Thursday night.

The Chicago Bulls Tickets : The Bulls Helped Spread The Popularity Of The Nba Around The World

The Chicago Bulls are an American professional basketball team based in Chicago, Illinois, playing in the Central Division of the Eastern Conference in the National Basketball Association (NBA). The team was founded in 1966. They play their home games at the United Center. The team is well known for having one of the greatest dynasties in NBA and sports history during the 1990s, winning six championships in 8 years with two three-peats.

All six of those championship teams were led by Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen and coach Phil Jackson. The first three championship teams included the likes of Bill Cartwright, Horace Grant, John Paxson and B.J. Armstrong, while the latter three championship teams had Luc Longley, Steve Kerr, Ron Harper, Toni Kukoc and Dennis Rodman on the roster.

The Bulls won an NBA record 72 games during the 1995/96 NBA season and are the only team in NBA history to win at least 70 games in a single season. During the 1990s, the Bulls helped spread the popularity of the NBA around the world. The 1998 NBA Finals, the Bulls’ most recent championship appearance, was the most watched championship series in NBA history.

he Bulls have three different uniforms: a white home uniform, a red road uniform, and a black alternate road uniform. The design of the white and red sets are nearly identical, with the team name featured on the front over the number, and the player’s last name over the number on the back and under the Bulls’ logo. The shorts have the Bulls logo in a diamond shaped design on the sides of the legs.

The red and white uniforms have remained mostly unchanged since 1966, with minor modifications from off-centered numbers to a cursive “Chicago” lettering on the road uniforms.

The less-often used black uniform (often used 10 times per season) shares the same design as the white and the red ones, except that “Bulls” is replaced with “Chicago” on the front of the jersey. It was first introduced during Chicago’s 72 win run in the 1995/96 NBA season, in which it shared a similar design to the Bulls’ regular road and home uniforms except that it featured pinstripes and a diamond that is not featured around the Bulls’ logo in the shorts.

This design was resurrected as part of the NBA Hardwood Classics Nights program, as well as NBA Heritage Week presentations (Dec. 7/14, 2007) throughout the 2007/08 season.

In the 1999/2000 season, the pinstripes were removed and “Chicago” replaced “Bulls” above the number in the jersey front. Beginning in the 2006-07 NBA Season, the player’s name on the back of the alternate jersey changed its color to white from the red/white combination, and the red diamond was added to surround the logo in the sides of the shorts. The player’s name was reverted back to the red/white combo in the 2007/08 NBA season.

The Bulls wear white shoes during the regular season, but black shoes during the playoffs. This unofficial tradition goes back to the Jordan era. The Bulls also wear only their red uniform on the road during the playoffs. During the 2008/09 season and first three games of the playoffs, however, the Bulls wore black sneakers on away games only while wearing white sneakers on home games.

In 2006 the Bulls were one of three teams to take part in the NBA’s first ever St. Patrick’s Day uniform program (with the Boston Celtics and the New York Knicks). The program consisted of the teams wearing specially designed green uniforms. For the program The Bulls’ changed their red road uniforms to green while maintaining the traditional red and black bull’s head on the shorts and the back of the jersey as well as the wording of “Bulls” on the front remaining black.

The Bulls wore these uniforms on March 18 against the Miami Heat. The following year the Bulls once again participated in the St. Patrick’s Day uniform program altering their road jerseys in the same way as before. This time the special edition uniforms were worn twice by the Bulls: once on March 13 at home against the Celtics and then again on March 17 in Memphis versus the Grizzlies.

In the 2007/08 season they wore them on March 17, 2008 (at New Orleans) and March 18, 2008 (vs. New Jersey). In the 2008/09 season, they wore the uniforms on March 17, 2009 against Boston.

The Bulls also participated in the NBA’s “Noche Latina” celebrations throughout March, beginning in 2009. They used a slightly altered version of their regular red road uniforms, with the wording “Los Bulls” to honor Hispanics throughout Chicago.
During the NBA’s “Green Week” celebrations, the Bulls also wore green uniforms, but a slightly darker shade from their St. Patrick’s Day counterparts and they used their black alternate uniforms as its template. They donned the uniforms in a game against the Philadelphia 76ers on April 9, 2009.

The 1998 NBA Finals, the Bulls’ most recent championship appearance, was the most watched championship series in NBA history. The Bulls have never lost an NBA Finals in their six appearances.

The Bulls then had two 1st round picks in the 2009 NBA Draft and decided to take Wake Forest stand out forward James Johnson and athletic USC forward Taj Gibson. In the 2009 NBA off-season, the Bulls lost their leading scorer Ben Gordon, who signed with their divisional rival, the Detroit Pistons.

On February 18, 2010, John Salmons was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks for Joe Alexander and Hakim Warrick. Meanwhile, Tyrus Thomas was traded to the Charlotte Bobcats for Acie Law, Flip Murray and a future protected first round pick.

On April 14, 2010, the Bulls clinched the playoffs with the number 8 seed; the fifth time in six years that they have made the playoffs. Unlike the previous year, however, the Bulls’ playoff run was shorter and less dramatic as they were eliminated by the Cleveland Cavaliers in five games. On May 4, 2010, the Bulls officially fired head coach Vinny Del Negro.

In early June 2010, Boston Celtics assistant Tom Thibodeau accepted a three-year contract to fill the Bulls’ head coaching vacancy. He was officially introduced on June 23, 2010. On July 7, 2010 it was revealed that Carlos Boozer of the Utah Jazz had verbally agreed to an $ 80 million, five year contract. Afterwards, the Bulls traded veteran point guard Kirk Hinrich to the Washington Wizards to create more cap space.

The Bulls also signed former 76er and Jazz guard Kyle Korver to a 3 year, $ 15 million contract. The same day that the Chicago Bulls signed Kyle Korver, they signed Turkish All-Star Omer Asik. After being matched by the Orlando Magic for J.J. Redick they signed former Grizzlies player Ronnie Brewer, traded for former Warrior player C.J. Watson, and signed former Bucks player Kurt Thomas as well as former Spurs player Keith Bogans and former Celtics player Brian Scalabrine.

The Bulls have an unofficial tradition of wearing black shoes during the playoffs, which dates all the way back to 1989 when they debuted the tradition. For the 1996 playoffs, they became the first team to wear black socks with the black shoes, similar to the University of Michigan and the Fab Five which started the trend in college earlier in the decade.

Since, many teams have this look in both the regular season and playoffs. It was noted when the Bulls made their first playoff appearance during the 2004/05 season after a six-year hiatus, they continued the tradition and wore black shoes.

During the 2009 Playoffs, however, the Bulls broke the tradition by wearing white shoes and socks in Game 3 of the first round against the Boston Celtics. They lost that game by 21.

The Chicago Blackhawks Tickets : The Blackhawks Are One Of The Original Six Nhl Teams

The Chicago Blackhawks (spelled as Black Hawks before 1986, and also known colloquially as the Hawks) are a professional ice hockey team based in Chicago, Illinois. They are members of the Central Division of the Western Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL). They have won four Stanley Cup Championships and fourteen division titles since their founding in 1926.

The Blackhawks are one of the Original Six NHL teams, along with the Boston Bruins, Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs, New York Rangers and Detroit Red Wings. Since 1994, the Blackhawks have played their home games at the United Center after having spent 65 years playing at Chicago Stadium. Currently, they are the defending Stanley Cup champions, having defeated the Philadelphia Flyers at the conclusion of their 2009/10 season.

The Chicago Blackhawks joined the NHL in 1926 as part of the league’s first wave of expansion into the United States. They were one of three American teams added that year, along with the Detroit Cougars (now the Detroit Red Wings) and New York Rangers. Most of the Hawks’ original players came from the Portland Rosebuds of the Western Hockey League (originally the Regina Capitals of the Western Canada Hockey League), which had folded the previous season.

The Blackhawks’ first owner was coffee tycoon Frederic McLaughlin. He had been a commander with the 333rd Machine Gun Battalion of the 86th Infantry Division during World War I. This Division was nicknamed the “Blackhawk Division”, after a Native American of the Sauk nation, Chief Black Hawk, who was a prominent figure in the history of Illinois.

McLaughlin evidently named the hockey team in honor of the military unit, making it one of many sports team names using Native Americans as icons. For many years, the name was spelled “Black Hawks.” This ambiguity was finally settled in the summer of 1986 when the club officially decided on the one-word version based on the spelling found in the original franchise documents.

McLaughlin took a very active role in running the team despite knowing very little about hockey. For most of his tenure as owner, he served as his own general manager. He was also very interested in promoting American hockey players, then very rare in professional hockey. Several of them, including Doc Romnes, Taffy Abel, Alex Levinsky, Mike Karakas, and Cully Dahlstrom, become staples with the club, and under McLaughlin, the Blackhawks were the first NHL team with an all-American-born lineup.

Like all NHL teams for the 2007/08 NHL season, the Chicago Blackhawks unveiled the Rbk EDGE jerseys from Reebok. Unlike other clubs, Chicago did not deviate much from previous jerseys with small exceptions:
* new collar with NHL logo
* a “baseball-style” cut along the bottom

The Blackhawks have brought back their black third jerseys for several games in 2008-09 after a one-year absence. For the 2009 Winter Classic, the Blackhawks wore jerseys based on the design worn in the 1936-37 season. The jersey is predominantly black jersey with a large beige stripe across the chest (also on the sleeves), with a red border, and an old-style circular Black Hawks logo.[33] The Blackhawks now use this Winter Classic design as their third jersey for the 2009-10 season, with the only change being tomahawks on the shoulders.

The Blackhawks’ uniform was voted one of the 25 best in professional sports by Paul Lukas of GQ in November 2004. The Hockey News voted the team’s jersey as the best in the NHL. In 2009, The Blackhawks wore special camouflage jerseys on Veterans Day during their pregame warm-ups. The jerseys were later sold in auctions to raise money for the USO of Illinois.

McLaughlin’s wife, Irene Castle, designed the original version of the team’s logo which featured a crudely drawn black and white Native head in a circle. This design went through several significant changes between 1926 and 1955. During this period seven distinct versions of the primary logo were worn on their uniforms. At the beginning of the 1955-56 season the outer circle was removed and the head began to resemble the team’s current primary logo. This crest and uniform went through subtle changes until the 1964-65 season. The basic logo and jersey design have remained constant since then.

2010-11 Chicago Blackhawks NHL Predictions and Odds

The NHL’s short offseason was one big party in the Windy City as fans of the Chicago Blackhawks finally were able to celebrate a Stanley Cup. Last year’s squad ended a 49-year championship drought thanks to six-game Cup finals win over the Philadelphia Flyers. The Hawks weren’t seriously threatened in last year’s playoffs, never getting extended to seven games and sweeping the West No. 1 seed Sharks in the conference finals.

Led by the likes of Jonathan Toews (25 goals, 43 assists), Patrick Kane (30 goals, 58 assists), Patrick Sharp (25 goals, 41 assists) and Norris Trophy winner Duncan Keith (14 goals, 55 assists), Chicago finished last season as the Central Division champion and with a franchise-record 112 points. The Hawks were third in the NHL in goals and first in shots.

But success often comes with a cost: a financial one. The Blackhawks were well over the salary cap entering the offseason after signing Toews, Kane and Keith to long-term deals last year that totaled about $ 130 million and was on top of big previous deals to Marian Hossa and Brian Campbell. Every day during the offseason it seemed GM Stan Bowman was forced to make another trade or roster move. But he was also able to do so without touching his core six of Toews, Kane, Sharp, Hossa, Keith and Brent Seabrook. Thus Chicago enters the season as the odds-on favorite to repeat, which no team has done since the Red Wings in 1998.

The Chicago Blackhawks schedule sees that Stanley Cup banner go up in the United Center rafters on Oct. 9 after the Hawks open two days earlier in Colorado.

Chicago Blackhawks’ Offseason Moves
The salary cap casualties were substantial. Antti Niemi, who took over for Cristobal Huet as the clear No. 1 goalie late in the season and finished fourth in the league in GAA before leading the Cup run, was released because an arbitrator awarded him about a $ 2 million raise over last season’s salary. He’s with West rival contender San Jose now. Dustin Byfuglien, who was a major playoff force, was sent to Atlanta. Also gone is Huet and his $ 5.6 million salary (loaned to a Swiss team) as well as Brent Sopel, Andrew Ladd, Ben Eager, Kris Versteeg, Adam Burish, Colin Fraser and John Madden.

Chicago signed former Dallas Star Marty Turco to take over in net. The 34-year-old was 22-20 with a 2.72 goals-against average and .913 save percentage and four shutouts for the Stars last season. But more important: He got a one-year deal that was about $ 1.4 million less than Niemi would have made. Chicago also added defenseman John Scott, forward Fernando Pisani and winger Viktor Stalberg. All three will make the big club but probably won’t be huge contributors. The Hawks will look to some in-house young players (Kyle Beach, Jack Skille) to fill out the roster.

Chicago Blackhawks Predictions: Outlook
Nothing short of another championship will suffice with the Hawks, and they still have the talent to do so, although obviously the depth isn’t what it was so a key injury would be a bigger problem this year than last – there’s no salary wiggle room to add help in a trade. Backup goalie Corey Crawford might have promise but he’s very inexperienced. Thus there’s a lot of pressure on Turco to stay fit.

Chicago Blackhawks Futures Odds
For the NHL betting odds, Chicago is the -300 favorite to win the Central Division, +205 favorite to win the West and +360 to win the Cup again. The Hawks’ ‘over/under’ for regular-season points is 102.5.

NHL Predictions for Chicago Blackhawks
Even with all the defections the Blackhawks bring back five 20-goal scorers from last year, and keeping young defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson after the Sharks signed him to a rich offer sheet was vital because it kept the top-four blueliners intact. In addition, the Hawks should get a full season out of Hossa, who only played in 57 games last year, and Dave Bolland, who was limited to 39. The Hawks should easily surpass the points total and will easily win the Central. Whether they win another Cup largely depends on Turco.
