Fantasy Baseball 2009

Well, the season is just under one week away which means fantasy baseball season is fast approaching. Drafts have already started and leagues are starting to form. The popularity of fantasy baseball has absolutely exploded over the past couple of years. Everyone seems to be joining in on the fun. I recently saw a news story somewhere about how women were increasingly becoming part of the fantasy sports scene. I absolutely love fantasy baseball. It gives me a chance to prepare for the upcoming season and take a look at what happened last year statistically.

I have to admit that I have done more mock drafts than I can count so far this spring. I love putting together a baseball team and competing with other users on a fantasy baseball website. I primarily use Yahoo! to play fantasy baseball but I have been experimenting with ESPN as well as MLB.com. I find it incredibly entertaining to put together a fantasy team from scratch. So one thing I wanted to talk about was a suggestion on how to draft a team. I am in no way a fantasy baseball expert but I do have my own strategy that has worked for me in the past. First off, I want to start by saying that I believe Jose Reyes is the single most overrated player in fantasy baseball.

Yes he is a 5 category fantasy player but his average, power, and RBI potential are not worth a first round pick in my opinion. I realize that shortstop is a very scarce position but I am not willing to blow a first round pick on a shortstop other than Hanley Ramirez. I would much rather use my first round pick, especially early in the draft, on a power hitter that will hit for a ton of average, home runs, and RBIs. Albert Pujols is the single most consistent hitter in the major leagues and I would much rather take him than most other players. However, my absolute favorite spot in a fantasy draft in a 10 team league is the 6-8 spots and in a 12 team league I like the 8-10 picks. You can still get an incredible player at the top (especially since someone will probably waste a pick on Reyes and I have even seen Chase Utley go in the first round or very early second round) and you then you get an early second round pick right after that.

What I have found myself doing is being able to grab someone like Miguel Cabrera (who might win the AL MVP this year) and then turn around and grab someone like Lance Berkman or Carlos Lee and every once in awhile Mark Teixeira will drop down to the 14th or so pick and I can grab him also. There are plenty of players that can fill in for speed. The most important pick for me in the third round pick this year where I completely and totally zone in on Carlos Beltran. I think that he is underrated and he is ranked around 25th overall in fantasy baseball. The guy is a solid and consistent 5 category player. I sit back and watch people draft pitchers with some first and second round picks.

This is where some conflict comes up when I talk to people during mock drafts. For me, pitchers are so much more volatile than position players. People with the last first round pick and the first second round pick have consistently been picking Johan Santana and Tim Lincecum back to back. Now of course they are going to have the best one two punch of any rotation in the league, but for me health among pitchers is much more of a concern than position players. Plus, a top tier position player is going to play around 160 games when fully healthy and a starting pitcher is only going to make 30-35 starts in a season. I honestly wait until around round six or seven before I start drafting pitchers.

You can put together a very good staff late in drafts if you know what you are doing. I have been getting pitchers like Chad Billingsley, Javier Vazquez (who should be fantastic in the NL), and Yovani Gallardo after the 8th round. That is going to be three ERAs around 3.50, WHIPs around 1.20, wins around 15, and strikeouts around 200. That is a devastating 1-3 on starters. Oh, and I literally laugh hysterically when people blow their fourth or fifth round pick on Papelbon. Why do people slobber all over one category pitchers? Closer is the single most unpredictable and volatile position in fantasy baseball. We saw teams switching closers all the time last year and I was able to not draft a single closer in one of my leagues yet finished 7th out of 12 in saves last year. Granted 7th out of 12 is not that great but considering the number of saves I got off the waiver wire and free agency it just goes to show how quickly and how many closers can lose their jobs.

This year I have been taking Brian Wilson as well as Matt Lindstrom very late. Usually around round 18. My lineup is usually mostly filled out by the time I start drafting pitchers in the 8th or 9th rounds. Like I said before I absolutely love doing fantasy drafts and playing against family and friends or complete strangers. If any of you who read this would be interested in starting a league for fun or just talking about fantasy baseball in general feel free to head on over to the forums page and post your thoughts and/or if you are interested in starting a league and playing against each other and other members of this site. Fantasy baseball is one of those things that I feel like anyone who loves baseball will enjoy. It gives you a chance to analyze statistics of certain players, teams, ballparks, and any number of other factors.

For instance, Matt Holliday was one of the best players in the Major Leagues while he was in Colorado. Now he is in Oakland and it will be interesting to see what will happen to his numbers moving from hitter friendly Coors Field to the pitcher friendly stadium out in Oakland.

2009 Fantasy Football Sleepers

One of the keys to winning a fantasy football league is the ability to draft Sleepers. “Sleepers” are NFL players who are drafted in much lower rounds than their ending statistics warrant. In shopping terms, this is getting a bargain price for a valuable product. The estimated draft position is taken from the Maximum Fantasy Sports Mock Draft found on their home page. The Mock Draft was formulated using the generally accepted “standard” league configuration.

2009 Fantasy Football Sleepers

QB: Kyle Orton (Denver) – Orton was brought to Denver in the off-season trade for Jay Cutler. He is leaving an offense in Chicago that limited his passing attempts and had few receiving threats. In Denver, Coach Josh McDaniels will want to give Orton the opportunity to prove his controversial trade of Cutler was a smart move. With Brandon Marshall (maybe), Eddie Royal, Tony Sheffler, and others as his receiving options, Orton will put up fantastic numbers for the 16th QB off the board at the projected last pick of the 11th round.

RB: Derrick Ward (Tampa Bay) – Ward skipped out of New York into a situation in Tampa where the QB position is up for grabs. This scenario almost always favors the running game. While Ward was second fiddle in New York to Brandon Jacobs, he still put up a quiet 1000 yards (5.6 ypc). There is talk of a platoon situation with Earnest Graham in Tampa, but that is what is driving his draft position down. Ward will be the feature back and will receive the majority of carries throughout the year. Picking up a 1A running back in a tandem as the 30th RB off the board in the projected mid-7th round is a steal.

WR: Josh Morgan (SF) – Morgan is the true definition of a Sleeper. Isaac Bruce receives the attention due to his surprising results from last year and Michael Crabtree gets the press due to his high-profile college career, draft position and current holdout. Crabtree will sign before the season starts as it is asinine to expect Top-5 rookie money as the 10th overall pick. However, his holdout, rookie status and lingering ankle injury will cost him playing time this year and Isaac Bruce will slow down as the Niners work some youth in at the WR position. This will be Morgan. He is projected to be available at the start of the 12th round – a very nice place for a receiver that you can start every week.

TE: Ben Celek (PHIL) – Tight End is a position that is very deep and turns out Sleepers year-in and year-out. With that in mind, you can let other managers spend high draft picks on Tony Gonzalez, Jason Witten and Antonio Gates. Celek turned it on at the end of 2008, especially during the playoffs. The Eagles let long-time McNabb favorite, L.J. Smith, go since they have his replacement in Celek. With Philly’s plethora of wispy receivers, McNabb needs someone to make the tough catches and hold onto the ball without leaving the field on a cart. Celek will fill that role nicely as a 16th round pick.

D: San Diego Chargers – The Chargers defense gave up 347 points last year but were missing Shawne Merriman and Shaun Phillips for most of last year. They are back and healthy this year. The Chargers also added Larry English in the middle of the defense. The schedule is very favorable (how can it not be when playing 6 games against AFC West teams?!) and the offense will be dominant once again, which is helpful in assisting the defense with additional sacks and interceptions. The Chargers are projected as the 18th defense off the board in our fantasy football Mock Draft, which will occur in the 16th round.

K: Garrett Hartley (NO) – After the Saints came to their senses and dropped Martin Gramatica and replaced him with Hartley, Hartley promptly went 13-13 on FGs and 28-28 on extra points. While kickers rarely get much attention in the fantasy football world, any kicker that is accurate, kicks in a dome over half the year (including a road game in Atlanta) and kicks for a team that puts a load of points on the board is worthy of drafting in the very last round of your draft as your only kicker.

Popularly known as the Football League Cup, or simply the League Cup or Carling Cup, this football league is an English football competition which was founded in 1961. A total of 92 clubs can enter the competition, which include 20 cups from the FA Premier League and 72 clubs of The Football League. The semi-finals for this league cup are played over two legs, and the winning teams qualify for the UEFA European League.

Liverpool club has been the most successful club so far in these football league matches, and have won a total of 7 titles. The current champions for Carling Cup are Tottenham Hotspur club who has won 4 titles so far. Aston Villa club stands at second position with 5 title winnings. Both Nottingham Forest and Chelsea clubs also have 4 winnings each in this league cup, making them in-line with Tottenham Hotspur club.

The Preliminary Rounds for Carling Cup 2009 started last year in 2008, with Round 1 held on 13 August 2008, Round 2 held on 25 August 2008, Round 3 held on 22 September 2008, Round 4 held on 10 November 2008, and Round 5 held on 1 December 2008. Round 5 marks the Quarter-final and so far the scores for 2008 / 2009 Carling Cup Quarter finals are Watford 1-2 Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United 5-3 Blackburn Rovers, Burnley 2-0 Arsenal and Stoke City 0-1 Derby County.

The four Quarter final winners will compete in the semi-finals over two matches, which will be held at each club’s stadium. The aggregate score of the clubs will determine the two winners of the semi-finals who will then compete for the final title at the 2009 Football League Cup Match. This years final will be the 48th edition of this Football League Cup, which will be held in the well-known Wembley Stadium in London on Sunday 1 March 2009.

This year is sure to bring more excitement and thrill to millions of footballs fans as the best football teams will compete for the Carling Cup Title. Although more popular among the young players, this league cup gives an opportunity to play against some of the large clubs, as the League Cup is a little less prestigious than the FA Cup and other league matches. This is why only a few large clubs participate in these league matches so that they can save their energy and effort for the “giant killing” in other league matches.

The Carling Cup provides an opportunity to the young players to show their talent and put up a big game. You can stay up to date with the latest scores by logging on to ScoresPro.com

Top 3 Big 12 Teams for the 2009 College Football Season

We are yet to see some powerful teams from Big 12 North because so far it seems like forever since the teams of the South have dominated the Big 12. There is no hope of that changing anytime soon however because the gap in the potential of the two division is only increasing if anything. So just like all the recent years, the great teams for the Big 12 are all part of Big 12 South.

With teams like Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech ? it seems like the south is the place to be in college football this year. It is definitely the best division there is right now.

That also means that the winner of the South title is going to win the Big 12 championship title without a doubt. What happens in South is what we actually have to see, as usual. So let’s take a look at the power packed south teams that have been placed on the top 3 list for the Big 12.

Texas Longhorns ? They are amongst the favorite picks for many an expert and analyst this season. But some of them also place them slightly behind their rival Oklahoma. However, there are still those who believe that they still have a better chance of winning the Big 12 that all the others. Their quarterback Colt McCoy is quite capable of matching Oklahoma’s Sam Bradford. With McCoy being supported by his buddy and wideout Jordan Shipley, the ‘Horns may have a good chance of winning this time round. The entire Offensive line up is back as well. Once coach Mack Brown finds a suitable tailback to stabilize the ever turbulent backfield, the ‘Horns will prove to be an unstoppable force in their current line up.

Oklahoma Sooners ? Their Heisman winning quarterback Sam Bradford is making a return this season and it is quite certain that he is looking for payback. The Sooners had a great season last year only to be stopped at the end by Florida during the BCS championship. Before that they were making it look easy but then Florida completely routed them during BCS, proving again that the Sooners lack in the defense section. Bradford is banking on the fact that tight end Jermain Gresham is returning. Gresham is fully ready for the NFL, making him a powerful player in the team. The tailback DeMarco Murray is also another one to watch out for.

Oklahoma State Cowboys ? They are a great team for the ACC or the Big East even and will route the field completely to make it to the BCS bowl. However, they are up against the ‘Horns and the Sooners in the Big 12 and that is what stops them every year. They may still breakout this season with their great offense trio made up of wideout Dez Bryant, tailback Kendall Hunter and quarterback Zac Robinson. Robinson makes for an experienced leader and together the Cowboys have a fighting chance of winning it or at least making it to the finals.

Your 2009 Trading Plan

The trading plan is discussed by top traders as Stuart McPhee interviews Mark Cook.

Stuart: ‘A trading plan. Is it overrated or do you need one?’

Mark: ‘No I think it is very much underrated because the trading plan when I won that 1992 US Investment Championship in 1991, I composed my first structured complete plan. I really attribute winning the 1992 to the plan I composed going into that. When I teach people in the mentoring, instruction, speaking I always allude to that because I guarantee whoever attempts that, even if they don’t complete it or it’s not as accurate or as detailed as it should be, it will improve your trade.’

Stuart: ‘Plans are not overrated. I think it comes down to that counter intuitive thing. Everything we need to do is counter intuitive. We don’t realize that. If we don’t realize that and we don’t have a plan, you’ll constantly make decisions intuitively won’t you?

So I guess the plan is the thing that provides the guidance to forget about the intuitive thing and just follow the plan. So that’s good to hear because I like to think I push the idea of the trading plan across. I always mention the three ‘m’s’ – the mindset, the money and the method. Which one of those is the more important, I guess you could argue for a long time. Certainly managing money is important. Do you think trading – a lot of people don’t meet their expectations with trading – is trading as difficult as a lot of people think it is? Is trading difficult or is it easy?

Mark: ‘I do think it’s very difficult but I think it is very rewarding. So anything that is very rewarding probably needs to be difficult – if it was too easy you wouldn’t think it was rewarding. But monetarily I think the upside potential for it is astonishing. And the limitation that people have is their mind, not their pocket book. Because the amount of money I have made over my thirty-two years has astonished me, because I never thought I’d make that much money over that period of time.

Stuart: ‘You probably don’t do it for the money now. It’s process, it’s routine, it’s something you enjoy.’

Mark: ‘Because of that I do it for the fun and go from there. But you need to really be hungry to keep an edge and perhaps I don’t have that as much as I once did. But someone that is your age for example, I started my trading company when I was thirty-four years of age and I had goals I needed to attain and I exceeded all the goals. But I was hungry back then, I needed to make x amount because of my family and other obligations I had. Not to say I’m coasting now, because I enjoy the trade, it’s fun to me, it’s fulfilling to me, it’s completed me. But do I have to do it every day? No. Do I want to do it each and every day? Yes.’

Stuart: ‘Because you absolutely love it. That’s terrific. Unfortunately there’s a lot of people in this world who don’t do what they love. Who go to work every day and don’t enjoy it. And I think trading provides all those things, working for yourself, and from home and flexible hours and no boss and coming with the money you think wow this is the perfect occupation, why didn’t I do this earlier? One of the crucial elements of course, of becoming and remaining a successful trader, is having a suitable trading plan.’

Aarkstore Enterprise—global Multilayered Ceramic Chip Capacitor Market 2009 2013

Multilayer Ceramic Chip Capacitors (MLCCs) are small size ceramic capacitors that are mainly used to filter ripple voltages. These electronic components have low impedance and are highly reliable. These MLCC components are composed of alternating layers of dielectric material and inner electrodes. Ceramic Capacitors do not have any polarity, and the dielectric medium is made of materials such as titanium acid barium. When a potential difference is applied between the two electrodes in a ceramic capacitor, it gets charged. However, once fully charged, it blocks the flow of current. Thus, capacitors are used as filters to block DC (Direct Current) and allow the passage of AC (Alternating Current) through them. A Multilayer Ceramic Capacitor (MLCC) is composed of alternating layers of dielectric material (ceramic in case of MLCC) present between two sets of internal electrodes (placed alternately in the capacitor body) and the terminal electrodes.

MLCCs offer high capacitance values owing to their multilayer structure. Thus, these are used for products with digital circuits requiring capacitance of more than 10 microFarad. In China, where ceramic capacitors account for more than 50 percent of the market, vendors have designed 3 micrometer thick MLCCs with 500 layers of dielectric material. On the other hand, Japanese MLCC manufacturers have developed one micrometer thick MLCCs with almost 1,000 dielectric layers which has even better capacitance per unit volume. Thus, with developing technology, the MLCC market is witnessing an increased capacitance per unit volume, which has made these capacitors suitable for a wide range of electronic devices and product applications. This has been a major driver for the Global MLCC market.

MLCCs are nowadays designed to work in harsh environments (like those present in racing cars), where they are required to maintain their ripple performance in high temperatures. For instance, Formula 1 cars have adopted KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) developed by Magneti Marelli. This is a small sized, light weight, additional power generating system that was attached to the racing cars in the 2009 Formula 1 season. This system uses MLCCs to store energy that is generally wasted during heavy braking in the Formula 1 racing cars. This energy is then used to provide extra power for overtaking during a race.
