Trade unions are mainly formed in order to work towards the interests and desires of the members. Their main role is to act and protect the employers against any sort of discrimination or denial of rights to the members. These work under many objectives regarding the employers and the employees of certain company or field.
To represent members in front of authorities
The trade union works as a representative of concerns and problems of the workers in front of authorities. Whenever a worker reports of any sort of discrimination the union leaders take up the issue to the authorities to seek solution of negotiation. This is generally related to the financial benefit or bonuses that are either denied or not offered at the time by the company. If the issue is concerning the whole group of employees then the leaders should represent and employ some activities to pass the demands.
To negotiate terms and conditions with the employer
When there is an issue that is concerning the whole group of workers, the trade union should bring about the negotiation after discussion with the management. Negotiation is the first step to pass the conditions of the workers from the employers. The leaders and the management team have to mull over every term in order to see the flexibility and feasibility of that change.
To demonstrate the concerns of the workers in front of employers
The union is meant to undertake some activities that would demonstrate and voice the concerns affecting the members of the union. This could include concerns over range of issues such as wages, lay offs, promotions, consideration of specific personalities for promotion, disturbing policies and so on. The union generally conveys the message of the members to the authorities to bring about the change or bargains.
To provide legal assistance to members
As the workers are unaware of the legalities or formalities, the union is the one that provides legal assistance of range of issues concerning the members. For example if some worker has been defined the perk on the basis of nationality or race then the union is supposed to advise the member and follow the procedures.
To extend teaching or help employers regarding some policies
Many times the employers are unaware of the policies or government rules over some issues. Therefore the union should extend the help to them to describe the scenario in order to make them change the way of action.
To ensure positive change in the management over financial issues
The major issue for which trade union interferes is the low wages or absence of bonuses. In such conditions the union is meant to represent the members and bring about the change expected by the members in the salaries and other working facilities. This is particularly done by undertaking several campaigns, strikes and other events to pressurize the employers to make the necessary provisions.
If these objectives are closely followed by the trade union they can bring great changes in the employer’s attitude and carry out the welfare of the members.
