“Bad Boys” of Italian Soccer

Antonio Cassano, Giorgio Chinaglia, Marco Materazzi, Paolo Di Canio and Christian Vieri are named as the most controversial men in the history of Italian football.

Antonio Cassano was hailed as the most talented football player of his generation when he was seventeen years old. He was also named as the player who involved a series of different scandals. In his infamous autobiography, Cassano explained how he had slept with between 600 and 700 women when he was under 25. Cassano was also banned for five matches in 2008 after throwing his shirt at a referee. In addition, the player hit Marcello Lippi’s son in a night club and stole a motorbike in his village.

Christian Vieri is a touchy character both on and off the football field. Vieri was named as the best striker in the world before Euro 2004. The man had an unpleasant relationship with the press during his career. It is said that Vieri’s love life was a chaos with many Italian showgirl, including Elisabetta Canalis and Melissa Satta.

Italian player Paolo Di Canio made one among the most notorious moments in English football history after pushing referee Paul to the ground because Paul had sent him off against Arsenal. Di Canio was banned for 11 matches for this crazy action. Earlier, he had also fought with managers Ron Atkinson and Danny Wilson.

Born in January 1947, Giorgio Chinaglia, the former Italian football striker scored 98 goals at Lazio between 1969 and 1976 and was named as the league’s leading scorer. Chinaglia was a controversial character who smashed up eight water bottles and turned the changing room into a mess after being substituted during a World Cup clash with Haiti.

Marco Materazzi is one among the most disliked and misunderstanding footballers in the world. He also was regarded as an untalented player during his career before 2006. Materazzi was named as the villain who wore a Silvio Berlusconi mask to celebrate an Inter derby win over Milan.
